The 5 Conservative Women Most Likely to Become President
Four women are early frontrunners to be part of a 2016 presidential ticket. As voters and the media continue to obsess over the next first in national electoral politics, these four Republican women make a strong case to be part of such a ticket. The Democrats will likely throw down with failed First Lady-turned-Failed-Senator-turned-failed-Secretary-of-State Hillary Clinton. But Republicans have a diverse group of candidates with compelling stories and strong records of success. Condoleezza Rice Many had hoped that the former Secretary of State and National Security adviser would have been Mitt Romneys pick in 2012. Though she was passed over for Paul Ryan, Condi Rice remains popular with Republican voters and the general public at-large. She was easily the most well-regarded figure in the George W. Bush administration. Rice would have seemed an unlikely selection prior to 2012 as many within the Republican Party stepped back and re-evaluated their foreign policy thinking. But after watching the isolationist, weak, indecisive and rogue foreign policy decisions of the Obama administration, a candidate Rice is starting to look quite appealing. With Russia, Iran, China, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and ISIS being a much bigger issue now than they were in 2008 and 2012, Rices experience and knowledge could not be matched by many others. And as almost none of the frontrunners for the Republican nomination have any in-depth foreign policy experience, she could provide that in a year where it will matter. And if Hillary were to be the Democratic nominee in 2016, who better to explain the world as it was left to Hillary, and the world Hillary let it become? Seeing Rice picked as Jeb Bushs running-mate is no stretch given her ties to the family. But she could also be a compelling pick for Rand Paul, someone who clearly has a different foreign policy perspective but who is a candidate who needs to satisfy the concerns of foreign policy conservatives. It would be an interesting and compelling ticket. It could be an unexpectedly brilliant ticket as well. [Potential: Vice-Presidential Nominee] Nikki Haley The Governor of South Carolina should cruise to second term in 2014.Ã By 2016, she will have 6 years of executive experience on her resume that includes a solid record of job creation and a drastic reduction in the unemployment rate. She has worked tirelessly to improve the business climate of the state and attract major businesses to relocate. Should she run for President, she would also have the clear upper-hand in the South Carolina primary, one of the 4 premier battlegrounds with a designation as the first-in-the-south contest. She is the daughter or Indian immigrants and her husband did a full-year tour in Afghanistan in 2013. She also appointed the popular Tim Scott to the US Senate seat vacated by Jim DeMint. [Potential: Presidential or Vice-Presidential Nominee] Susana Martinez The Governor of New Mexico makes sense as a Presidential of Vice-Presidential pick for many reasons. She is a female Latina Governor in a world obsessed with checking off boxes of firsts, and she would be a two-for-one deal. But beyond the identity politics, Martinez has proven a practical and tough figure. Her electoral accomplishments have come in New Mexico, a bluish-purple state that voted for President Obama in 2008 and 2012 by double-digit margins, proving she has broad appeal. As the GOP struggles to convince minority and women voters to give the Republican Party a chance, Martinez is a pretty effective voice in that regard: Martinez was a Democrat who shifted to the Republican Party after being personally convinced that her states values were conservative ones. Its an argument that Republicans will need if they want to broaden their support base. [Potential: Presidential or Vice-Presidential Nominee] Carly Fiorina Fiorina has never held political office, but the first female CEO of a Fortune 50 company proved to be a very smart and disciplined politician in her 2016 run for President. Conservatives took to Fiorinas aggressive style, but she never had a base to draw from with a dozen other established candidates in the field. However, look for her to be a top option for US Senator Ted Cruz if he somehow upends Trump for the GOP nomination in 2016. Kelly Ayotte The US Senator from New Hampshire will be up for re-election in 2016. This presents a problem for her and many other Republicans from the 2010 Senate class such as Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rob Portman, and Ron Johnson: to run for re-election in a tough state; quit and run for President; or do both. So far, only Rand Paul has indicated that he wants to both run for President and re-election to the US Senate. Unlike the other candidates, his Senate seat will likely not be competitive so it is less of an issue. For Ayotte, doing both is not practical and she would be a long-shot as a Presidential contender in such a crowded field. But as a VP prospect she brings a lot to the table. She is a fairly popular US Senator and the only female contender with Northeastern credentials, an geographic region of struggle for Republicans. However, she lacks the foreign policy experience of Dr. Rice and the executive experience of Haley and Martinez, so her selection could appear more optics than exper ience. [Potential: Presidential or Vice-Presidential Nominee]

Columbine Essay Example For Students
Columbine Essay Columbine The tragedy at Columbine High School is something that will be remembered and talked about for many years to come. People from across the nation have all heard about this event. But there are still a couple questions that people have. For instance whoââ¬â¢s to blame? The kids alone, the parents for how they brought the children up, or even actually the students at Columbine? Most say that the parents are to blame, but who actually knows? In my opinion the only two people that can actually answer this question truthfully are both dead. Everyone wants answers. Did the kids have help? Who was it? Who sold them the weapons and why? Why did they do this? How could they do this? I had a class about the last question. Who could actually go into a room and commit a crime of massacre in a school of people that you know and have grown up with? Most of our class thought that they couldnââ¬â¢t ever get enough anger to do anything even remotely as bad, but when you actually think about it, if you had no friends and where made fun of all the time. It looked like your parents, teachers, and even all your own piers where against you. I think anyone could snap and maybe even do something as drastic as this (Why at Columbine High). Did the boys, Dylan Klebold, 17, and Eric Harris, 18, have any help doing this crime. As of yet no one has true evidence that proves they did except they did find who sold them the weapons. Police found around thirty small bombs and one twenty-pound propane bomb in the school, enough explosives to blow the school into almost nothing. For this reason people believe that the boys either had to have help or they had visited the school many times to plan this assault. No one talking though and no proof has been found. Their not only looking for information from someone that could point to someone that had helped theyââ¬â¢re also looking for someone that had known that this was going to happen, so that they may find the answers to so man y questions (The Colorado Shooting: Who Helped). Besides many bombs the police had also found a horrible suicide note. ââ¬Å"Your children who have ridiculed me, who have chosen not to accept me, who have treated me like I am not worth their time are dead. THEY ARE (expletive) DEAD. I may have taken their lives and my own but it was your doing. Teachers, parents, LET THIS MASSACRE BE ON YOUR SHOULDERS UNTIL THE DAY YOU DIE.â⬠Those lines from the note have to be the worst thing Iââ¬â¢ve read in my life. Itââ¬â¢s almost as if they are completely happy with doing this, and they think that theyââ¬â¢re doing for the good of the people. The letter goes on to say, ââ¬Å"You may think the horror ends with the bullet in my head, but you wouldnt be so lucky. All that I can leave you with to decipher what more extensive death is to come is ââ¬Ë12Skizto.ââ¬â¢ You have until April 26th. Goodbye.â⬠This is something that Iââ¬â¢ve only read in this one place ââ¬Ë 12Skiztoââ¬â¢ what could it mean? So far course they believe it had something to do with the bombs they found in the school, but who actually knows? The way they word everything is so sad. Itââ¬â¢s sad because just by reading these pieces of the note you know they must have had so much hatred towards their parents, teachers, piers, and even the parents of their piers (Police Discover Possible Suicide Note). Another tragic event that happened out of all this is the martyr Cassie Bernalls death. This girl stood up and said, ââ¬Å"There is a God, and you need to follow along Gods path.â⬠And because of that simple statement that she said directly to the boys they shot her dead. What a brave little girl, giving up her life in hope that maybe just maybe the boys may stop. Unfortunately it had no effect. And now the death of Cassie Bernall will stay with everyone as the martyr of the Littleton tragedy (A Surge of Teen Spirit). Even at six months after the horrible tragedy more tragedy is happening. October 23, 1999, the mother, Carla June Hochhalter, of Anne Marie Hochhalter, one of the critically injured children from the Columbine Tragedy shot herself, because of all the stress this has put her through. Since their daughter was paralyzed they had to have money to keep her in the hospital, so they had to sell their house and live in motels and such. Harriet Hall, the psychologist in charge of counseling the Columbine victims, said that Mrs. Hochhalter had been making progress, but that things like this donââ¬â¢t usually take full effect on someone till about six months. It takes till about then to actually realized that the person is gone. Yet one more death to add to the twelve students and teachers killed and twenty-six injured during the Columbine Tragedy, will it ever stop? (Mother of Injured Girl Commits Suicide). Schools around the nation were threatened with phone calls and letters about this event as if they wanted to copycat the tragedy. So far Jeffco, Colorado has had four letters stating that they would have the same thing done to their school. Most schools arenââ¬â¢t worried they believe that the kids believe they will get a day or two out of school, because of it, but since Jeffco has had four and itââ¬â¢s so close Littleton their not sure what to do (4 threatening letters to Jeffco schools probed). A total of 18 families by October 19 had already filed civil cases against the county sheriff, the school district, or both for amounts of one hundred thousand dollars to anywhere up to ten million dollars. One of the cases is coming from the parents of Dylan Klebold towards the county sheriff for not telling them about all the violence Eric Harris had done in his life. The Kleboldââ¬â¢s stated that if they would have been told of Harrisââ¬â¢s behavior that they would have never even let Dylan be around him. The parents of Isaiah Shoels, one of the kids that were shot during the massacre, are suing both the Kleboldââ¬â¢s and Harrisââ¬â¢s parents, and the person who sold them the weapons. The Shoels announced they wanted to sue for two hundred fifty million dollars, but unfortunately, for the Shoels, the state cap for a wrongful death claim is two hundred fifty thousand dollars (18 Columbine Families File Lawsuit Notices). After six weeks of no one except investigators and policemen in the school the police finally let them in. Everyone had something to get or look at, since the kids all had to leave their book bags in the school. A lot of the kids despised having to go back to school where many of their friends were killed or even injured (A Sad Homecoming at Columbine High). As of now in the little town of Littleton, the people are decided rather or not to destroy the old library and build a new one, for over three million dollars. They see the library as a horrible memory since ten of the students were killed and thatââ¬â¢s where the boys committed suicide (Library Approval Delayed). This entire event got worse and worse as I read into it. Before now I never knew what was written in the suicide notes that they had written, but now that I do itââ¬â¢s really unbelievable that a human could think up such a thing and actually do it. Itââ¬â¢s one thing to think about doing it, but strictly another going through with something so gruesome. I believe all of us feel left out sometimes, or maybe just seeing everything go wrong from them and that everyoneââ¬â¢s against them, but I donââ¬â¢t see it in anyone to take that hated to these extremes. .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 , .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .postImageUrl , .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 , .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:hover , .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:visited , .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:active { border:0!important; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:active , .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4 .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u89f0b4ff6fc64319e0bb9a5b549c5fb4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Case Study Union and Auto Parts Essay We will write a custom essay on Columbine specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now

To Fall and Rise Again free essay sample
We can plan all we want, but ultimately, it is in taking steps, shaky as they may be, that we find our intended life paths. When we misstep, we can choose either to sit down and wallow, or to pick ourselves up and continue more steadily and with greater ease than before. When I left for Cusco, Peru, a few years ago, I had no idea that my five-week stay would impact me so profoundly. I have often wondered if I would have ever stepped into the airport security line, waving good-bye to my family for what should have been the last time, had I known what was in store for me. On the fourth week of my trip, I toured Machu Picchu with five friends from my volunteer project. We arrived at sunrise, and after lunch it was finally time to hike Huayna Picchu, the 1,180-foot mountain overlooking the ruins. We will write a custom essay sample on To Fall and Rise Again or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The last thing I remember is entering Huayna Picchus trail, but I have been told that it was just ten minutes into the trek that I plummeted 100 feet down the mountainside, a sheer drop for the first 20 feet, sliding on my back the next 20 feet, and then rolling horizontally for 60 feet. I was unconscious or semiconscious for the next six hours as rescuers worked to get me out of the thick brush, onto the path, and through the six-hour journey back to Cusco. Miraculously, I did not sustain any broken bones or brain hemorrhages. My head trauma was later categorized as a moderate traumatic brain injury. For months after the accident I suffered from headaches, fatigue, nausea, light sensitivity, disrupted sleep, and memory and attention problems. Recovery from a traumatic brain injury can take years, and for the first three months (which many neurologists claim to be the most critical for recovery) I did not receive adequate treatment, which is, unfortunately, common among brain-injured individuals. During this time, I had to drop the few classes I had attempted to take. I could not find answers anywhere; my friends struggled to relate to me, just as I struggled to relate to them. They were contemplating colleges, dances, and jobs, while I contemplated suicide. I could not cope with this sudden, seemingly unjust change. I had fallen so deeply into myself that the world around me was no longer accessible. Inside, I was drifting in an overwhelming, tumultuous sea of bitterness and rage that eventually went still with unfeeling. It grew stronger in its stillness, however, and there were many times I did not try to fight. It is human nature to despair, but it is also human nature to lift our heads up and keep treading, even if we do so wearily. For me, it was my faith in God that kept me trudging along through my depression. And over time, the motionless sea of my soul developed a current once more, propelling me to the surface. I finally received proper treatment, learned how to explain my condition to my friends, and grasped a plan for my future. I was given an extra year of high school in order to meet my graduation requirements at my own pace. Certainly, that plan was vastly different from my peers, and I mourned passionately for the life I believed I was meant to have. Eventually, my grief changed into grudging acceptance, and finally, jubilant gratitude. I no longer wonder if I would have boarded that plane had I known its ultimate destination; in a heartbeat, I would board it, and with even more enthusiasm than the first time. When people hear my story, I often see pity in their eyes, but I am now far from self-pity. I tell them that I am grateful it happened, that I like myself better now than I did before. I am infinitely more empathetic, I can withdraw from events and see them from a larger perspective, I have lost anything about me that was shallow or superficial, and I have met people and gone places that I never would have had I not fallen. They say that the higher you climb, the farther you fall, but I also believe that those who sink the lowest have laid out paths by which they may rise to the highest.

5 Powerful Words and Phrases That Make You Sound Like a Leader
5 Powerful Words and Phrases That Make You Sound Like a Leader Words have an incredible amount of power. Using the right words in the right setting can be a tool with enormous potential. Your choices in phrasingà can make you respected or reviled. Great leaders use words to inspire, intimidate, engage. Here are 5à phrases great and powerful leaders use- and you should too, if youââ¬â¢d like toà sound like a leader.1. ââ¬Å"Andâ⬠Saying ââ¬Å"andâ⬠instead of ââ¬Å"orâ⬠shows that you donââ¬â¢t think in terms of black and white, and you donââ¬â¢t limit your options. You add a third possibility to every either/or situation by adding the idea of both. Even if it doesnââ¬â¢t work out that way, thereââ¬â¢s no use limiting your options just by the words you choose to delineate them.2. ââ¬Å"Whyâ⬠You know how little kids have that phase of ââ¬Å"Why? Why? Why?â⬠? Ask yourself why adults donââ¬â¢t use the word more often. Itââ¬â¢s a great way to engage with the situation at hand, think outside the box, understand the problem, and come up with a more targeted and inspiring solution.3. ââ¬Å"Tell me more.â⬠Your impulse is to say ââ¬Å"no.â⬠How about saying ââ¬Å"tell me moreâ⬠instead? You might be missing something. Either way, you give your questionerà the chance to make a better case. If youà withhold your judgment until you have a more nuanced sense of what it is youââ¬â¢re judging, youââ¬â¢ll see more of the situation before deciding. It also signifies that you are willing to listen- even if you end up saying ââ¬Å"noâ⬠in the end. Great leaders are good listeners.4. ââ¬Å"Whetherâ⬠We often get caught up in how weââ¬â¢re going to do something and bogged down in details of how to accomplish a task that might not be worth all the time and effort if examined more closely. If you remember to ask ââ¬Å"whetherâ⬠itââ¬â¢s worth approaching first, then you can save yourself and your team a lot of wasted resources and energy. As k ââ¬Å"howâ⬠second.5. ââ¬Å"What do you think we should do?â⬠This is not just a great way of getting ideas from your colleagues, itââ¬â¢s a good way of thinking outside the box, seeing things through othersââ¬â¢ eyes, and not limiting the variety of options at hand. You call can brainstorm together and bounce ideas off one another. Asking this question makes you the ultimate team player, someone who knows he needs others to get the task at hand done. Plus: discussion always encourages innovation. Everybody wins.

U.S. Teen Pregnancy and Abortion Rates
U.S. Teen Pregnancy and Abortion Rates Preventing teen pregnancy is one of those perennial hot-button issues in the news, and countless sources cite the statistic that 3/4 of a million teens become pregnant each year. But what are the real facts and figures on teenage pregnancy in the U.S.? How current is the data and is teen pregnancy overblown by the media? What are the statistics for teen abortions and teen births? The February 2012 study U.S. Teenage Pregnancies, Births and Abortions, 2008: National Trends by Age, Race and Ethnicity, authored by Kathryn Kost and Stanley Henshaw and released by the Guttmacher Institute draws upon the most current estimates available and provides data on teen pregnancy rates in the United States in 2008 on a national level. Teen pregnancy rates differ from teen birth rates in that pregnancy rates include births, abortions, miscarriages and stillbirths. Current statistics including pregnancy, birth and abortion rates are outlined below. Number of Teenage Pregnancies In 2008, there were approximately 746,500 teen pregnancies involving young women and girls under age 20. The bulk of those pregnancies 733,000 were among teens age 15-19, while girls 14 and younger accounted for 13,500 pregnancies. Teenage Pregnancy Rate Among teens age 15-17, the pregnancy rate was 67.8 pregnancies per 1,000 women or 7% of the population. This rate was the lowest in over 30 years, down 42% from the peak pregnancy rate of 116.9 per thousand in 1990. Among girls 14 and younger, the pregnancy rate declined 62% from a high of 17.5 pregnancies per thousand in 1990 to 6.6 per thousand in 2008. Pregnancy Rate of Sexually Active Teens The pregnancy rate of sexually experienced teens (those who have ever had intercourse) was 158.5 pregnancies per thousand young women age 15-19, which indicates that the overall teenage pregnancy rate includes a significant proportion of teens who have never had sex. That rate reached its peak in 1990 when it was 223.1 per thousand a decline of 29%. Teenage Birth Rate In 2008 the teen birth rate was 40.2 births per 1,000 women, a drop of 35% from the peak rate of 61.8 per thousand in 1991. Teenage Abortion Rate In 2008 the teen abortion rate was 17.8 abortions per 1,000 women, the lowest rate since abortion was legalized. Abortion rates for teens peaked in 1988 at 43.5 per thousand; compared with the 2008 rate, that represents a decline of 59%. Although teen birth and abortion rates have been on a steady decline for more than two decades, in 2006 there was a short-lived increase in both the teenage birth and abortion rate. Both rates resumed their decline according to 2008 figures. Teenage Abortion Ratio The proportion of teen pregnancies that end in abortion (known as the abortion ratio) declined by a third from 1986-2008, from 46% to 31%. Teen Pregnancy Rates Across Racial and Ethnic Groups Although declines were seen among all three groups (white, black, Hispanic), the teen pregnancy rate remains higher among black teens and Hispanic teens as compared to non-Hispanic white teens. For non-Hispanic white teens, the pregnancy rate declined 50% since 1990 (from 86.6 pregnancies per 1,000 to 43.3). Among black women aged 15ââ¬â19, the pregnancy rate dropped 48% between 1990 and 2008 (from 223.8 pregnancies per 1,000 to 117.0). Hispanic teenagers (of any race), the pregnancy rate fell 37% from its highest level between 1992 and 2008 (from 169.7 per 1,000 to 106.6.) Teen Pregnancy Rates and Racial Disparity When compared to each other, the disparity in teen pregnancy rates across racial and ethnic groups is apparent. Rates among black and Hispanic teens were 2ââ¬â3 higher than that of non-Hispanic white teens. Among the different groups, in 2008 the pregnancy rate per thousand for young women age 15-19 was: 43.3 for non-Hispanic white teens106.6 for Hispanic teens (of any race)117.0 for black teens Teen Abortion Rates and Racial Disparity A similar disparity exists in teen abortion rates across racial and ethnic groups. Abortion rates among black teens were 4 times higher than that of non-Hispanic white teens; among Hispanic teens, the rate was twice as high. Among the different groups, in 2008 the abortion rate per thousand for young women age 15-19 was: 10.4 for non-Hispanic white teens20.1 for Hispanic teens (of any race)40.8 for black teens Teen Birth Rates and Racial Disparity Likewise, the disparity continues in teen birth rates across racial and ethnic groups. Birth rates among black and Hispanic teens in 2008 were twice the rate of non-Hispanic white teens. Among the different groups, in 2008 the birth rate per thousand for young women age 15-19 was: 26.6 for non-Hispanic white teens70.3 for Hispanic teens (of any race)60.1 for black teens Number of Pregnancies, Births, Abortions and Estimated Miscarriages In 2008 the following numbers for women younger than age 20 were recorded and/or estimated: Total number of pregnancies - 746,530Total number of births - 440,522Total number of abortions - 198,100Total number of estimated miscarriages (including stillbirths) - 107,910 Out of a total population of young women age 15-19 in the U.S. of 10,805,000, roughly 7% of teen girls were pregnant in 2008. Fingerhut Pricing Strategy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Fingerhut Pricing Strategy - Essay Example There was even a lawsuit against the company and we can claim that this company needed corrections of its policies in the international business context. Fingerhut's price strategy was the following: no down payment was required. It comprised cash price in addition with shipping and handling prices. Therefore, pricing strategy at Fingerhut Company is considered from different perspectives, but the main intention is to show the relevance of the companyââ¬â¢s strategies in the international business market. Pros and cons of Fingerhut Price Strategy Poor customers were the main target for the company and the company provided them with credit as a perfect option. Consequently, Fingerhut Company was blamed for aggressive behavior towards poor clients (i.e. the Company exceeded effective interest rate and was targeting on poor people through misleading advertising campaign). From one perspective, customers were offered an opportunity to obtain goods on credit under conditions of good pr icing strategy. In accordance with Crisp, there was a need to increase an option of freedom of choice for the customers, because advertising does not override the autonomy of the customers. Moreover, the company had to develop persuasive advertising on the basis of objective ideological goals. Crisp also claims that people give a chance for the marketers to be manipulated without their own consciousness. In case clients are manipulated, there is a diminution of autonomy (Donaldson and Wehane 2007, p. 507). Therefore, we may claim that Fingerhutââ¬â¢s pricing strategy restricted autonomous desires and consumers choices. Prahald underlines the main concern of the companies on poor nations and poor people. Prahald presented the economic pyramid, where it is determined that there are 4 billion of people from the poorest nations and the largest markets are operating with regards to poor nations (Donaldson and Wehane 2007, p. 575). Thus, marketers take into account the option of the po or nations to buy more and to have access to traditional markets and goods. Moreover, poor people are pleased with an increased attention from marketing directed on their needs and they consider the options, which were previously available for rich people. The main concern for the firms is to build trust between the firms and BOP consumers. Poor people are very brand conscious and very value conscious as well. Conclusion Brenkert underlines a necessity for guarded trust for Fingerhut's company and he defines that the Company lacked considerations about differences in values and motives in the market (Donaldson and Wehane 2007, p. 116). With regards to international business ethics, the main attention of the firms should be focused on commonality of values and motives, consistency of behavior, openness, reputation of the company etc. Therefore, the claim by Prahald and his attention focused on the inconsistencies of the firmââ¬â¢s concerns about the needs of poor people is correla ted with Brenkert claim focused on the necessity for consistent international policies in terms of international business ethics. In case Prahaldââ¬â¢s claim is chosen as the leading one for further discussions about firms pricing strategy development, then under conditions of international business, marketers should take into account consistent and various needs of poor nations. Moreover, these nations should not be perceived as nations, which are unable to pay for their needs and to buy the goods they want. Unlike Crisp, who underlined that autonomy of poor people is restricted and their conscious is limited by the marketers, the vision of Prahald is more integrative. A Critical Discussion of the Concept of Integrated Marketing Essay
A Critical Discussion of the Concept of Integrated Marketing Communications from an Advertising Strategy and Planning Perspective - Essay Example A significant debate over recent years has been the significance of ensuring the integration of these tools of marketing communicationsâ⬠(Yeshin, 2006). Introduction The desire to implement effective marketing communications and advertising strategies since the inception of corporate world prompted the integration of varied aspects deemed by managers to ensure clientsââ¬â¢ satisfaction (Luck & Moffatt, 2009). The aim of this action was to capture large pool of clientele globally as well as corporations have high clientââ¬â¢s retention rate essential in ensuring higher market share than other key players in the same field (Luck & Moffatt, 2009). However, this concept, which is Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) has received both welcoming and dissuading arguments from varied scholars whereby the latter category deem IMC is a ââ¬Å"management fadâ⬠(Cornelissen & Lock, 2000, p. 9). Hence, according to the dissuading category, IMC is not a new devised effective tool but a fashion of what used to be prior to the inception of utilizing it. Conversely, some scholars have argued pro about the idea of IMC coupled with availing adequate proven examples, which support the argument that have persisted up to date. Therefore, this study seeks to provide a critical discussion of Yeshinââ¬â¢s (2006) statement on the subject of IMC relating to both advertising strategy and planning in UK. ... Evolution in this case encompasses integrating of technology with other marketing aspects especially in communicating, planning and execution, whereby according to IMCââ¬â¢s devotees or proponents this is not a ââ¬Å"management fadâ⬠(Cornelissen & Lock, 2000, p. 9). This is because advertising cannot exist solely by its own but entails other varied and essential aspects meant to aid it in attaining the required corporate reputation in the market. Therefore, integration of the current communications knowhow usually supplements advertising aspect, which to date has experienced transitory period. Similarly, Cornelissen and Lockââ¬â¢s approach or argument aligns well with Luck and Moffatt (2009, p. 313) study where they expound more about significant evidence of transition in terms of marketing strategies. Based on their study, ââ¬Å"communicationsâ⬠usually implies diverse marketing methods, which current policymakers ought to embrace in order to improve both particip antsââ¬â¢ interaction and relationships contrary to the 20Th centuryââ¬â¢s advertising approaches (Luck & Moffatt, 2009). Hence, posing the aspect of evolution whereby in the past, marketers solely focused on distribution channels as well commoditiesââ¬â¢ exchange, which is contrary to the current period whereby market mix has taken over as key marketing strategy. This aligns with the relayed statement whose implication cites integration of varied methods or communications together with advertising aspect aimed at heightening corporationââ¬â¢s reputation despite numerous counterarguments against it. Other arguments in favor of IMC aspect characterizing the current corporate world encompass establishing of communication programmes contrary to the earlier four key mass media forms

History of the Phantom of the Opera Essay Example for Free
History of the Phantom of the Opera Essay In 1911, Gaston Leroux published Le FantÃâme de lââ¬â¢Opera, the now famous book that gave birth to the legend of the Phantom.à Leroux had been fascinated by the mystery and design of the Paris Opera House.à As a theatre enthusiast, he had toured all the levels of the Opera House including a visit to the underground lake, cellar and hidden passageways. The mysterious events at the Paris Opera House which ignited Leroux ââ¬Ës interest began with Napoleon IIIââ¬â¢s call for a new opera house to be built in Paris in 1860, after he had survived an assassination attempt one evening when returning from the Opera. à The construction of the Opera House, faced many delays and construction stopped during the Franco Prussian War. After the war, the then unfinished Opera House was occupied by the working class who used it as a warehouse, observation post, communications center, military post and a powder store. à The cellar was once used as a torture chamber.à The new Paris Opera House was finally finished in 1875.à Finally, adding to the mystery, an unfortunate incident occurred in the Paris Opera House in 1896, a counter-weight of six and a half ton chandelier fell from the ceiling, killing a patron. Gaston Leroux always claimed that the ghost in the story was true, based on his investigations and tours of the Opera House.à He is quoted as saying: The Opera ghost really existed. à He was not, as was long believed, a creature of the imagination of the artists, the superstition of the managers, or the absurd and impressionable brains of the young ladies of the ballet, their mothers, the box-keepers, the cloak-room attendants, or the concierge.à No, he existed in flesh and blood, though he assumed all the outward characteristics of a real phantom, that is to say, of a ghost.à (Leroux, G, n.d) In 1925, began the chain of events that would give rise to the phenomenon of the Phantom.à Universal Studios made the first film of the book ââ¬â the silent movie, Phantom of the Opera, which starred Lon Chaney Snr.à A second version of the film, this time with sound and color, starring Claude Raines was produced in 1943.à Followed by a Spanish version in 1962, and a 1974 version starring Herbert Lom and Heather Sears. The Phantom was produced twice on stage in 1935 and 1975, without much success. Then, in 1986, the legend of the Phantom of the Opera would become one of the most famous stories in the world, when Andrew Lloyd Weberââ¬â¢s Musical ââ¬â Phantom of the Opera hit the stage in London.à In the 21 years since the Musical began, it has broken all theatre records and is now the longest running Broadway Show in History. The success of the musical spurred the movie industries interest again in 2004, with a moderately successful movie called ââ¬Å"Phantom of the Operaâ⬠based on Andrew Lloyd Webberââ¬â¢s opera.à Critical acclaim for the movie has been varied. The Phantom has outlived his creator who died in April 1927 and has become iconic to the 20th and 21st Century. à History of the Hit Musical ââ¬â The Phantom of the Opera à à à à à à à à Andrew Lloyd Webberââ¬â¢s musical The Phantom of the Opera opened in Londonââ¬â¢s Majesty Theatre on 9 October 1986.à In the original London Cast, ââ¬Å"The Phantomâ⬠was played by Michael Crawford, and ââ¬Å"Christineâ⬠by Sarah Brightman (then wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber). The original creative team of the Phantom was: Harold Princeà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Director Cameron Mackintoshà à à à à à à Producer Andrew Lloyd Webberà à à à Composer, Book, Co-orchestra Maria Bjà ¶rnson à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Production Designer à While Andrew Lloyd Webber had already been phenomenally successful with productions like Evita and the Sound of Music, ââ¬Å"The Phantomâ⬠made stars of the actors and creative team members. The musical is still running 21 years later (2007) in London, Broadway (N.Y) and touring worldwide.à The Phantom has won over 50 awards including 3 Olivier, an Evening Standard Award, 7 Tonyââ¬â¢s and 3 Outer Critic Circle Awards. At the time of writing, it is estimated that over 80 million people have seen the musical, with total ticket sales of over $3.2 billion. à Reviews of the Phantom of the Opera: The Daily Mirrorââ¬â¢s first review of the Phantom of the Opera in 1986: Itââ¬â¢s fantastic, fabulous and phantasmagorical! Its fantastic, fabulous and phantasmagorical! From the eerily flickering lights that greet you outside Her Majestys Theatre to the last, glorious curtain call, Andrew Lloyd Webbers long-awaited new musical, Phantom of the Opera, is a triumph. The special effects are among the most spectacular ever seen in the West End. The music is very bit as memorable as one would expect from the man who wrote Evita, Starlight Express and the rest. But most of all, the show belongs to Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford, who soar and swoop through their hugely demanding roles like eagles. After all the well-publicised false starts and back-biting, Lloyd Webber has created a musical which deserves to be around well into the next decade. The story is based closely on the original novel of 1911 unlike most of the Phantom of the Opera films which have been made over the years. Michael Carwfords Phantom hides his hideously disfigured face by skulking in the stage caverns and pools deep beneath the Paris opera. His passion for music is the only thing which gives his life meaning until he becomes obsessed by Sarah Brightmans Christine a young opera singer whose beauty is matched only by the purity of her voice. He coaches her in secret while visiting dreadful catastrophes on anyone who refuses to advance her career. A hanged scene shifter is suddenly hideously dropped on to the stage in the middle of a performance. A vast crystal chandelier crashes on to the audience. As the phantom becomes more fiendish so Christine becomes increasingly mixed in her feelings towards him. A dreadful climax is fast approaching. The eerie sets of the unfolding drama great stages filled with mist and shining candles are interspersed with all the colour and spectacle of the operas being prepared and presented at the theatre. Despite all the ghost train theatricals the greatest thrills of the show come from Michael Crawford. He not only sings superbly but also captures the torment of the Phantom perfectly. If you only see one show this year, make sure it is this one! (Blake, J, 1986) In 2002, The Times wrote: Long-runners One answer is obvious: Maria Bjà ¶rnsonââ¬â¢s stunning designs. The story, based on Gaston Lerouxââ¬â¢s novel, begins on the Paris Operaââ¬â¢s stage in 1911. The building is dusty and neglected, the stage festooned with great swags of grey fabric. Old theatrical props are being auctioned off. Then, as the auctioneer announces the final lot ââ¬â the operaââ¬â¢s enormous chandelier ââ¬â the dustsheets fall away, the scene seems almost to dissolve and the theatre travels back in time to 1881 before our very eyes. Itââ¬â¢s a vision of gaudy grandeur: gas lamps flicker, red velvet glows in the light and plaster nymphs and satyrs frolic on pillars. The opera is dogged by misfortunes that are rumoured to be the work of the Phantom, a malevolent figure who haunts the theatre. This sinister creature has become obsessed with Christine Daaà ©, a pretty chorus girl. But only cadaverous Madame Giry, the formidable ballet mistress, knows the terrible secret that lies behind the mask the Phantom wears. The musicalââ¬â¢s best sequence occurs when the Phantom leads Christine through labyrinthine passages to his lair beyond a hidden lake underneath the building. As their boat glides over the misty water, surrounded by flickering candles, the effect is breathtaking. The problem is that this spectacle takes place early on and nothing afterwards can really compete. Harold Princeââ¬â¢s direction is slick and Gillian Lynneââ¬â¢s choreography effective, but Lloyd Webberââ¬â¢s music is often trite and dated. Thereââ¬â¢s little depth to any of the characters, either, yet the musicalââ¬â¢s central relationship intrigues. For while Christine is Beauty to the Phantomââ¬â¢s Beast, she is haunted, not only by the opera ghost, but by the memory of her dead violinist father. This lends a pleasingly perverse Freudian twist to the erotic tension between the two characters, and the performers John Owen-Jones and Celia Graham make the most of it. Not only are they both excellent singers, they are fine actors too. Graham brings both passion and a childlike neediness to her portrayal of Christine. Owen-Jones uses his rich, powerful voice to great effect, crooning one moment, spitting bitterness the next. But the real star of the show is Bjà ¶rnsonââ¬â¢s work. The designer died earlier this month, aged 53, and if Phantom has stood the test of time, itââ¬â¢s because of her. It is not the music audiences will remember; itââ¬â¢s the operaââ¬â¢s chandelier swinging crazily over the stalls, or a masked figure crouched menacingly over a gilded angel. And for those images alone, this show is still worth seeing. (Marlowe, S,à 2002) The New York Times revisited the Phantom in 2005 and wrote this review: New York Times revisits the Phantom Old and Ghostly but Still a Hoot The paint on the balconies of the Majestic Theater looks chipped and the electronic drum machine sounds like something left over from a music video from the 1980s. But The Phantom of the Opera really shows its age (17 years and running) when the signature special effect is presented. Musicals have opened and closed in the time it takes that chandelier to lumber to the floor. Looking like one of Ed Woods teetering flying saucers, it crashes to the stage with the force of a shopping cart, the biggest, most extravagant anticlimax in town. Seventeen years later: Sandra Joseph and Hugh Panaro are now playing the roles of Christine and the Phantom. Under the fearsome shadow of Hugh Panaro in The Phantom of the Opera. But what do you expect? It was designed during the Reagan administration. For a top-of-the-line chandelier, you will have to wait for the $40 million production of Phantom opening in Las Vegas next spring. But if the technology of the Broadway show seems a bit quaint, the real news is that the rest of the production has grown old gracefully. Judging by sheer invention, emotional punch and onstage talent, the venerable blockbuster still beats out almost all of the whippersnappers currently on Broadway. Maria Bjornsons flamboyant gothic design and Harold Princes fantastical staging still have the gleam of finely polished professionalism. Led by the current Phantom (there have been 10 after Michael Crawford), Hugh Panaro, an up-and-coming musical theater star who finds the right mix of shock and schmaltz, most of the cast retains the freshness of opening night. That does not mean that Andrew Lloyd Webber haters, a large and very grumpy contingent, will be won over. Sorry, The Music of the Night hasnt changed. Nor has Charles Harts bumbling lyrics (You have brought me to that moment when words run dry). But for those sentimental souls looking for a popular entertainment to transport them to a baroque, romantic new world with a powerful smoke machine, Phantom, Im happy to report, still delivers the goods. Which is especially impressive, given that not long ago, the musical seemed to be on its last legs. By the fall of 2003, its peers Miss Saigon, Cats and Les MisÃÆ'à ©rables had faded away. Ticket sales were down and rumors of its demise were common around Broadway. Flash-forward to today: crowds are lined up around the corner to see the show, which regularly sells out. Last week, 99 percent of the seats were filled. In January, barring a strike, disaster or nuclear holocaust, Phantom will eclipse Cats as the longest-running show in Broadway history. What happened? For one thing, it received a boost from Joel Schumachers film version of the musical, which opened in December. Even though it wasnt a smash hit, the movie introduced a new audience to the show (as evidenced by the large number of young girls at the Majestic) and reminded old ones how superior the musical is. In fact, the bombastic film may be the only thing that makes the musical look understated. Mr. Prince, who continues to oversee casting and reportedly checks up on the show every few months, deserves credit for tending to it with care. When the box office dipped, he never panicked and cast a former Backstreet Boy for a short-term boost in sales. Unlike so many long-running shows, Phantom has not resorted to stunt casting. Although dont be surprised if Mr. Panaro, who has been rumored on theater Web sites as the choice to star in Lestat, Elton Johns vampire musical heading to Broadway next season, becomes a household name someday. A young, charismatic actor, he brings a maniacal energy and Grand Guignol charm to the tortured Phantom. In his hands, the show concentrates more on the horror than the romance; but only once does he turn to the audience and growl which, considering how scenery chewing this role could be, counts as admirable restraint. Surrounding him is a solid supporting cast who deliver disciplined performances free of the lazy flourishes that sneak into a role when an actor becomes bored by repetition. As the diva Carlotta, Anne Runolfsson flashes a hundred-watt smile and shows off a richly textured voice in the opening song, Think of Me. Jeff Keller and George Lee Andrews, the only actors with major roles who have been with the company since the beginning, are marvelous as the nervous theater managers who made the mistake of buying the Paris Opera House. In 2001, Mr. Prince had them switch roles to keep things fresh. Sandra Joseph (who doesnt perform Wednesday evenings or Saturday matinees) is perfectly competent as Christine, although in her scenes with the Phantom she can come off as a bit bland. As her other love interest, Raoul, a terribly underwritten role, Tim Martin Gleason provides a strong voice and a stiff performance. In the romantic songs, ones mind easily wanders to the bitingly funny Lloyd Webber parody in Spamalot, which droned on and on until the stars looked tired of their own voices. Then again, the winking and eyebrow-raising in satirical musical comedies like Spamalot and The Producers are part of what makes the proudly melodramatic and unironic Phantom a nice change of pace. The musical may seem as if it is from a different time, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. (Zinoman, J, 2005) Personal Review: à The Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera captures your attention right from the start and then you will be you will be drawn into a mysterious world of horror, romance and tragedy. Your journey keeps you spellbound through resonating songs sung by a handpicked cast, Maria Bjornsons magnificent sets and costumes to both delight and frighten you. Gaston Lerouxââ¬â¢s gothic novel comes to life through Andrew Lloydââ¬â¢s Webbersââ¬â¢ Phantom.à The musical beautifully combines a mixture of genres, performed through opera, leaving the audience entrapped in a tragic tale of love. Whether you are recovering from fright or floating on Phantomsââ¬â¢ songs ââ¬â this musical will keep, you entertained, wistful and somewhat disturbed leaving you thoughtful as to who should triumph in the end. New fans and old are still being enraptured by the phenomenon of The Phantom. à à Works Cited: Blake, J, (1986) Itââ¬â¢s fantastic, fabulous and phantasmagorical!, The Daily Mirror U.K. Retrieved 04/18/2007, http://www.thephantomoftheopera.com/poto/news_mediareviews_story.php?id=38 Leroux, G. n.d. Media Portrayal of Female and Male Body Image Essay -- TV Television B
Media Portrayal of Female and Male Body Image Body image is a hot topic in the media. Unrealistic and unattainable are words that can be used to describe images in the media. Skinny, waif-like women and muscular, Rambo-like men are the idolized body images portrayed. In the media female models keep getting thinner and thinner while men keep getting more muscular. Many say the media and its depictions of the ideal body weight created the problems of low self-esteem, eating disorders, poor body concepts, and sexism through spotlighting unattainable body image icons. "In a media-saturated culture like the one we have in the United States, the influence of media-promoted images on our perception of what is good, healthy, beautiful and desirable has often been discussed and in most ca...

Inhumanity in Night Essay
Elie Wieselââ¬â¢s Night is about what the Holocaust did, not just to the Jews, but also by extension, to humanity. People all over the world were devastated by this atrocious act, and there are still people today who have not overcome the effects. One example of the heinous acts of the Germans that stands out occurs at the end of the war, when Wiesel and the rest of the camp of Buna are being forced to transfer to Gleiwitz. This transfer is a long, arduous, and tiring journey for all who are involved. The weather is painfully cold, and snow fell heavily; the distance was greater than most people today will even dream of walking. The huge mass of people is often forced to run, and if one collapses, is injured, or simply can no longer bear the pain, they are shot or trampled without pity. An image that secures itself in Wieselââ¬â¢s memory is that of the Rabbi Eliahouââ¬â¢s son leaving the Rabbi for dead. The father and son are running together when the father begins to grow t ired. As the Rabbi falls farther and farther behind his son, his son runs on, pretending not to see what is happening to his father. This spectacle causes Wiesel to think of what he would do if his father ever became as weak as the Rabbi did. He decides that he would never leave his father, even if staying with him would be the cause of his death. The German forces are so adept at breaking the spirits of the Jews that we can see the effects throughout Wieselââ¬â¢s novel. Wieselââ¬â¢s faith in God, above all other things, is strong at the onset of the novel, but grows weaker as it goes on. We see this when Wieselââ¬â¢s father politely asks the gypsy where the lavoratories are. Not only does the gypsy not grace his father with a response, but he also delivers a blow to his head that sent him to the floor. Wiesel watches the entire exhibition, but does not even blink. He realizes that nothing, not even his faith in God, can save him from the physical punishment that would await him if he tried to counterattack the gypsy. If the gypsyââ¬â¢s attack had come just one day earlier, Wiesel probably would have struck back. However, the spiritual beating by the Germans had already begun. The incident that perhaps has the greatest effect on Wiesel is the hanging of the pipel. He is a young boy with an ââ¬Å"innocent faceâ⬠who is condemned to death because he is involved in a conspiracy that results in the destruction of a German building. When the time for the hanging approaches, the Lagerkapo refuses to kick out the chair, so SS officers areà assigned to do it. Unlike the necks of those he is hanged with, the young boyââ¬â¢s neck does not break when he falls, and he suffers for over half an hour. The suffering of the child is comparable to the suffering endured by many Jews during the Holocaust. He fought for his life, at times even seeing a bit of hope, only to be destroyed in the end. The Jews struggled for everything they had, from their possessions at the beginning, to their lives at the end. The result, however, was the same. At the end of the war, Wiesel looks into the mirror, and says he saw a ââ¬Å"corpse.â⬠This ââ¬Å"corpseâ⬠is Wieselââ¬â¢s body, but it has been robbed of its soul. This is similar to the loss suffered by people all over the world. Those not directly killed during the Holocaust were still alive physically, but their mind and spirit had long been dead. By the end of the w ar, Wiesel loses all of his faith in God and his fellow man, and this is the most difficult obstacle to overcome when he is released.

A pro forma would help guide companies in deciding how to best operate and succeed. When starting a brand new company a financial forecast is essential. A financial forecast would help a brand new co mpany decide on how much inventory would be needed, cost of start up and production, and how much capital is needed. Obtaining a financial forecast would also help guide a brand new company on how much profit the company can make, whether a bank loan would be needed to start up and how many individuals can be hired.Family-owned companies need financial forecast just as much as a brand new company. A family-owned company would need a financial forecast for obtaining information from the simplest of things like how much inventory is in stock, profit sharing, expected expenses and profit for the future. A family-owned company would need a financial forecast to also make good decisions on continuing a successful business, which department needs revamped or tweaked. It is essential for a family-owned company to obtain a financial forecast to also estimate whether sales income would be enough to cover expenses and whether cutbacks need to be made. A long-standing company, even though it ha s been in business for a long time (hence the phrase ââ¬Å"long-standingâ⬠) needs a financial forecast for the same reasons a brand new company and a family-owned company needs it. A pro forma (financial forecast) would provide a long-standing company with estimated future profit, expenses, cash budgets, and sales income. A inancial forecast can also help guide a long-standing company in making decisions on things like increasing sales, whether advertising is needed and whether certain investments prove to be worth it. Although, a financial forecast is just basic estimation of what is to be expected in the future it provides essential information that could help guide any type of company in the right direction. Starting a brand new company, a family-owned company, and a long-standing company all have something in common: producing a successful company in all aspects.

I Am Sayings Of Jesus In Johns Gospel Religion Essay Example
I Am Sayings Of Jesus In Johns Gospel Religion Essay Example I Am Sayings Of Jesus In Johns Gospel Religion Essay I Am Sayings Of Jesus In Johns Gospel Religion Essay The purpose of this assignment is to exegetically discoursing the I AM expressions of Jesus within John s Gospel, province their significance to redemption. Jesus used symbolic linguistic communication in speaking about Himself and His relationship to people. Harmonizing to Tenney the ground for Jesus utilizing symbols was to exemplify assorted facets of His ministry. John uses symbols to indicate to the celestial world revealed in Jesus. In visible radiation of this Butler states that the word symbol does non look in the Bible nevertheless, both the Old and New Testament are rich in symbolic linguistic communication. Writing The writer of John s Gospel is non mentioned by name, but early Christian beginnings indicate this Gospel was written by John, the adherent and boy of Zebedee, one of the 12 adherents who was at the Passover repast with Jesus. John referred to himself as the darling adherent and eyewitness of the events of Jesus life. He identifies himself as, this is the adherent that testifies of these things, and wrote these things ; and we know that his testimony is true ( John 21:24 ) . John s Gospel includes seven I AM expressions uncovering God as manifested in Jesus and His relationship with Israel. God s name I AM reveals His individuality, His position, and His character, and was given to Jesus so that He can uncover God s glorification to mankind, in the universe where many claim to be Gods and Jesuss. The Bread of Life This is the first of John s expressions where he uses the metaphor to uncover Jesus as vitalizing nutrient. As a whole the transition challenges the Galileans to believe in Jesus celestial beginning and embodiment so that they may hold ageless life now every bit good as at the end-time. John describes Jesus as the Son of Man, who is the true nutrient that gives imperishable life ; this instruction was a testing to see whether the listeners would make up ones mind to follow Christ or reject Him. After Jesus had satisfied the hungriness of five 1000s people from multiplying five loaves of staff of life and two fishes ; they had became hungry once more and asked Jesus to state them about the religious truth about the nutrient that nourished each of them. Milne claims that the Galileans had mercenary docket and a lacked the consciousness of the demands of the bosom. For them God s approvals are a free nutrient supply and a political Messiah who would free them of their heated Roman leaders. Their concern is with what they can make to assist the cause along. They demanded another miracle to turn out His claim to give ageless life. They thought that believing could come merely by seeing miracles. Jesus points out to them that if they spend their present and future life working to derive material things and disregard the nutrient available to them in Jesus, they will die. The people challenged Jesus claim that He had sole authorization by God to give them imperishable nutrient. They so began to mention Bible to Jesus by stating, it is written that our sires ate manna that was given to them as nutrient from heaven by Moses ( Exodus 16:31 ) . The point they were seeking to do here is that the manna eaten by their sires had a heavenly character. Jesus responded by rectifying their misunderstanding of the Bible, and stated that the manna had non come from Moses but from God, his Father. Whereas the manna ( nutrient ) God supplied in the wilderness through Moses was perishable it gave physical life and fulfilling physical hungriness and was merely for the people of Israel. The bread God gives through Jesus is the true imperishable staff of life and is the gift of life for the whole universe. The people asked Jesus to give them this staff of life ever, they did non understand what it was they were bespeaking. They did non cognize the religious significance of the nutrient given nor that Jesus Himself is that nutrient, but assumed that Jesus was talking of some sort of supernatural nutrient that would be available whenever they felt hungry. This so prompts Jesus to eventually state, I am the staff of life of life, who of all time comes to me will neer travel hungry and he who believes in me will neer be thirsty. John provinces that they were concentrating on the gift without recognizing the giver, and saw Him as a admiration worker. Jesus is the imperishable nutrient, He is the beginning of life imparts life to worlds, and to have this life one should come to Him in religion non by plants. Jesus concern is to face them with their mistakes and indicate them to the true manner to happen life from God, they merely need to believe and trust on Him and on Him entirely as the one the Father has sent as a forfeit for the wickedness of the universe. The Light of the World The 2nd expression of Jesus claim to be the true Light of the people of God, non merely of Israel, but of the whole universe. Within this transition it gives two ways of life on Earth which is dominated by two opposite forces visible radiation and darkness. John uses thoughts that were current in his clip to proclaim that anyone who believes in Jesus and obeys Him can non be controlled by immorality, and because Jesus is the Light darkness can non get the better of Him. In chapter ( 8:24 ) Jesus struggle with those who were in darkness because of their wickedness and unbelief, illustrates an on-going struggle between visible radiation and darkness and farther warranting His claim as the Light of the universe . What he is stating here is that merely He can take people out of darkness into visible radiation, out of their psychotic belief into truth, and from decease by giving the visible radiation of life. Whoever follows Him will neer walk in darkness but have the visible radiation o f life. From this Jesus is stating that He has a alone relationship with the Father and He is the disclosure of the 1 and merely God, who is light and redemption. Jesus is the Light of the universe in the sense that He is the glow of God s glorification in the universe, and carrier of the visible radiation of God. In ( Isa 49:6 ) He is besides recall as the Servant of the Lord who would be a visible radiation for the Gentiles who will convey redemption to all world. The Good Shepherd and the Door This transition contains two metaphorically I AM expressions whereby Jesus declares himself to be the Good Shepherd and the Door. Here he promises protection and a manner of redemption for his followings. First by taking on the function of Shepherd Jesus reveals himself as the Christ and Shepherd King, who leads his people with compassion, protecting and caring for them while supplying a sense of belonging to himself and God. As the shepherd goes before the sheep they in bend meekly follow Him, trusting and obeying His words and non the words of those who oppose Him. Second Jesus points out that there is merely one door into the sheep pen, implies that He is the lone door to Salvation. By proclaiming that He is the door for the sheep, Jesus is stating that He is the lone manner by which one can see God and His love ; the lone one through whom celestial secrets and godly life are imparted to those who obey Him, He is their defender and the agencies by which they obtain religious nutriment, He is the lone manner of communicating between Eden and Earth. In add-on to this Jesus claims that stealers and robbers who came before Him can neer come in the sheep pen to misdirect the sheep ( people ) . Here Jesus is mentioning to the Pharisees, the Judaic leaders, who exercise authorization over the people of Israel by misinterpreting the Law to 4 their ain advantage ; and the leaders who attempt, to win the trueness of the people before Christ came in the flesh. He says, Like stealers, they approach was secret and cunning, and like robbers they were engaged in force and devastation ( Ezek 34:1 ) . They had non been sent by God either through Christ, but illicitly claim leading. Jesus states that the sheep shall no longer follow or listen to the voice of these false leaders, because they now know and hear the voice of the true shepherd. The Resurrection and Life In chapter eleven Jesus affirms He is the Resurrection and life, and John quotes that raising Lazarus from the dead at Bethany is a preliminary to Jesus ain decease and Resurrection. He claims that the Resurrection life is like a future experience and a present world. Second John claims that Jesus is the lone 1 who can raise the dead and give life. Therefore, the Resurrection and life can merely be experienced in Jesus. Consequently the word life is indistinguishable to eternal life , the Godhead gift given to those who believe in Jesus. Ultimately, those who receive His life are born of the Spirit. Jesus does non merely raise the dead by His voice giving life, but He is the Resurrection and the life, holding the power to Resurrection comprehensiveness of life, besides confirming that He works in unity with God in raising the dead. Harmonizing to Jesus, all human existences will be resurrected after decease to have God s opinion, for it is appointed for them to decease one time, and after that to confront opinion ( Heb 9:27 ) . The words will neer die does non assure immortality, but those who believe in Jesus by religion will confront physical decease like every other human being, but decease will hold no control over them. By the power of Jesus they will lift up from the dead to see heavenly life in all its comprehensiveness. Therefore the 1 who lives and keeps on believing will non die everlastingly. The Way, the Truth, and the Life John sees this as Jesus pastoral address delivered to His adherents before He leaves them to travel to the Father. In malice of their close relationship with Jesus, 5 His adherents still did non understand His finish. From this misconstruing Jesus makes His 6th I AM stating, and it is the merely 1 to be followed by three predicates. He profess that he is the manner, the truth and the life, and that no 1 comes to the Father but through Him. Here the way is the 1 that is emphasised because it corresponds with Jesus statement in ( 14:4 ) Where I go you Know, and the manner you know, and Thomas enquiry in ( 14:5 ) , Lord we do non cognize where you are traveling ; how can we cognize the manner? The predicates truth and life are so added to explicate the term way . In response to Thomas s inquiry Jesus answers him by stating, I am traveling to be with God, the Father of us all. So when He states, I am the manner, He is stating that it is merely in Communion with Him that one can make God. Here John stresses that Jesus is God s lone disclosure and the lone manner of redemption. Jesus came from God and is traveling back to God by manner of being crucified and so resurrected ; He is God s self-revelation and the 1 who is the lone manner to God. The two nouns truth and life, reveal that Jesus is the true and living manner to God, because He is the truth of God and the life of God. Here John s accent is on the indi vidual Jesus who is the manner to the presence of God there one will see ageless joy. Parallel to versify 6 is Psalm 16:11 which speak of those who follow the way of life will see joy to the full in the presence of God. Jesus is the Word incarnate and Teachs to His adherents that He is the true and vitalizing manner to the presence of God in peace and prosperity ; Isaiah ( 30:23-26 ) , besides speaks of this prosperity to the people who obey the word. As the manner, Jesus gives us entree to the Father ; He will besides include with Himself all those who trust in Him when He returns to His Father. As the truth, Jesus reveals God as the Truth to the universe in His love, clemency and rescue. As the life, Jesus gives life and peace to all those who believe in Him. Merely those who see God s love and fidelity in Jesus and draws towards Him, will cognize the manner to make God, this is entirely expressed in His statement no 1 comes to the Father except through me. 6 Since Jesus is the incarnation of Godhead truth and life, the lone manner to come in the celestial kingdom is through Him. The Vine In the concluding I AM expressions Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and the subdivisions. He reveals Himself as the true vine, and compares Himself with the people of Israel who he metaphorically described as subdivisions who had failed to bear fruit, hence neglecting to laud God. Fortunately, what is known as failure and impossible with adult male, can be turned into success and become possible through Christ. Knowing He is from Eden and the life He possesses is godly, He can besides provide life to the subdivisions. Here John nowadayss Jesus non as one who bears fruit, but as the beginning of power leting those who stay in brotherhood with Him to bear fruit and carry through the program of God. Hebrews 9:24 quotation marks that the Tabernacle in Eden is called the true collapsible shelter and the earthly sanctuary is known as a transcript of the true 1 that is in Eden. The nazarene reveals Himself to be the true vine . This vine is of heavenly beginning, and hence has the ability to uncover heavenly world and give life to the subdivisions which are united with it. Jesus refers to God as the vinedresser this shows us that God is the proprietor and plantation owner of the vine and the subdivisions. The map of the subdivisions is to bear fruit , in other words one demand to make good workss after penitence ( Luke 6:35, Matt 3:10 ) . God expects good plants from human existences, and failure to execute them will take to God s opinion, ensuing in one being separated from Him and to devastation. Those who bear fruit reproduce Jesus life by which the Father s glorification will be revealed to the universe. Jesus continues the metaphor by mentioning to all His adherents stating, every subdivision of mine . Meaning those who are united with Jesus will be recognized by the universe as His adherents. The Father, the vinedresser, takes off any subdivisio ns that does non bear fruit, and prunes those that do. Clearly what is seen here is that God is the 1 who controls the whole procedure of fruit-bearing. 7 He purifies the vine to protect the fruit-bearing subdivisions by taking subdivisions that do non bear fruit intending followings of Christ who becomes unfaithful. He takes them away from His people and consigning them to ageless penalty. God besides purifies the fruitful subdivisions by sniping them so that they will bear more fruit. God s pruning of trusters takes topographic point through the salvaging mission of Christ words and workss. Jesus tells His adherents that they are already clean by the word He has spoken, which is the Father s word. Here word bases for the whole message of redemption preached and performed by Jesus who besides declares God and His love to mankind. Those who receive Jesus and His word by religion will see God s Glory and are passed from decease to life. The adherents, who have received Jesus word, are already clean ; nevertheless, cleansing is a procedure ; every bit long as they remain in Christ God the Father will go on to clean them so that they will bear more fruit. Jesus emphasises this point so that they realise the Father is already sniping them and they are already cleansed doing them suit for brotherhood with Christ. They need non try to pass over out evil from their heads or partake in any signifier of speculation in order to accomplish brotherhood with God ; for brotherhood with Christ, and in Him with God, is a gift that has already been given and need to be received by relig ion. Jesus exhortation, abide in me and I in you , is the cardinal statement in chapter 15. Here Jesus issues a bid, in footings of the metaphor of a vine and it branches. This metaphor highlights the communal life of which the individual who does the abiding is portion of. Life for the church flows from Jesus, and one can non absorb life from Him unless they are united with Him. All one demand to make is to stay in brotherhood with Him. When we abide in Christ, and do His word our subject of speculation in our mundane life in love and obeisance, we can use His word to alterations in our every twenty-four hours state of affairs. Believers can be nurtured by Jesus life through chew overing on and absorbing His words. Decision The nazarene came into the universe from heaven to convey redemption to mankind, by giving up His ain life as a forfeit on the cross. God s name I AM and glorification are given to Him uncovering them to those who believe in Him as the anointed Messiah sent by God into the universe. He has divine authorization and delegated power to give heavenly life to everyone who comes to Him. There is no other individual one can look for godly life except in the one whom God has authorized. So to follow and stay in Jesus is the lone manner to redemption, as we observe from His I AM expressions. Salvation is no longer confined to the state of Israel but is extended to all states of the universe.

SAT Essay Scoring The Real Story
SAT Essay Scoring The Real Story SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips It's 17-19 days after your SAT test date, so you log into the CollegeBoard website, eager to see how you did. You look at your essay score and see...ââ¬Å"9.â⬠You check for more detail in your score report and see that Grader 1 gave you a 5, Grader 2 gave you a 4...and that's it. So how are SAT essays graded, and how can you use this information to your advantage? Read on to find out! feature image credit: Iffy explains it all by Quinn Dombrowski, used under CC BY-SA 2.0/Cropped and resized from original. A Quick Look Into SAT Essay Grading The first thing you do when you sit down to take the SAT is the 25-minute essay section. Once you write your essay (as well as the rest of the test), though, what happens to it? Your essay is scanned and uploaded to an essay grading interface and graders then grade it. SAT essays are currently graded on a scale of 1-6 by two graders, giving you a total essay score out of 12. This score out of 12, along with your raw score on the SAT Writing multiple-choice questions, is factored into your total SAT Writing score. If the two graders give you scores more than 1 point apart (i.e. if one grader gives your essay a 2 and another gives your essay a 4), a third essay grader will be brought in to resolve the issue. Your SAT essay scores are based on each essay graderââ¬â¢s impression of your essay as a whole, which is why the SAT essay is said to be graded "holistically." You donââ¬â¢t get a certain number of points taken off for grammar mistakes or for organizational issues, as you might on a normal school essay. In fact, graders are trained to ignore minor errors in grammar, sentence structure, and so on. Important note: In March 2016, the SAT essay will be changing in format and grading structure, so some of this information may not be accurate for that test. Check back for updates! SAT Essay Scoring: Official Policy How are graders supposed to grade? I've copied the official policy from the CollegeBoard below: ââ¬Å"The SAT Scoring Guide expresses the criteria readers use to evaluate and score the student essays. The guide is structured on a six-point scale. Since the SAT essay is scored holistically, readers are trained to use the SAT Scoring Guide in conjunction with anchor papers, which have been scored by consensus as representative examples. The language of the Scoring Guide provides a consistent and coherent framework for differentiating between score points, without defining specific traits or types of essays that define each score point.â⬠What's the SAT Scoring Guide? While I've written another article that goes into detail about the SAT essay grading rubric, I'll give a quick rundown of its main points here: Point of View, Logic, and Support You must: Have a clear opinion on the prompt (a thesis). Make sure you clearly answer the essay prompt, both in your introduction with a thesis statement and over the course of your essay. For example, take the essay prompt were "Are important discoveries the result of focusing on one subject?" Your thesis (and your essay) should clearly answer this question, preferably with a "yes" or "no" (SAT essays that try to answer "sort of yes, sort of no" tend to be weaker, since you only have 25 minutes to write your essay). You must: Use specific examples to support your point. You can't just say "my point of view is correct because it is" and be done. Instead, you need to use specific examples from history, literature, pop culture/current events, or your own life to support your thesis. You must: Explain these specific examples in a way that supports your thesis. It's also not enough to just write your thesis and then describe a specific example - you also need to explain why that example supports your thesis. Organization and Focus You must: Keep your essay organized. This means sticking to a clear essay structure (with an introduction, body paragraphs for each example, and a conclusion) as well as making sure your thoughts are organized within each paragraph. Vocabulary and Word Choice In order to score highly, you must: Use a wide variety of vocabulary correctly. It's good to use advanced vocabulary, but only if you're using the words correctly. You can get away with a few errors, but if your word choice starts to seriously affect the meaning of your sentences, your essay score may drop. Sentence Structure In order to score highly, you must: Use a variety of sentence structures. As I've said in other articles, this is the area that I struggle the most with under time pressure. As long as you don't start multiple sentences in a row with the same word (oops) or write sentences that all have the same underlying structure (e.g. "Gandhi was a great leader. India was in trouble. The world was watching."), however, you should be fine. Grammar, Etc. You must: Use standard written English grammar. Again, it's all right to make minor errors in grammar and punctuation in your essay - graders are trained to overlook minor issues. If your essay has consistent issues with grammar that make it difficult to understand your reasoning, however, this will affect your essay score. SAT Essay Grading in Practice Essay graders donââ¬â¢t grade based on how correct your statements are. This means that you can write things like "My friend was killed by a polar bear because he didn't go to the instructional course about how to deal with bear attacks" or "The Scopes Monkey Trial ended with Scopes being executed for his belief in evolution" and the graders will have to take it as true. My reaction when I first learned this: WHAT. How can that be true?! So I investigated further and found the reasons that lie behind this rule. Because SAT essay scorers donââ¬â¢t have time to fact check each and every fact in each and every essay, they must take everything you write in your essay as true. Plus, the stated purpose of the SAT essay assignment is to "show how effectively you can develop and express ideas" in 25 minutes. The CollegeBoard understands that under the time pressure of a 25-minute essay students will sometimes write things like "World War I took place in the early 1800s" (instead of "the early 1900s"). As long as your statements logically support your thesis, you're in the clear (although if you write things that donââ¬â¢t make sense that undermine your main point, your essay grade will suffer). Second, while thereââ¬â¢s nothing in the publicly available official guidelines that say how long each grader has to grade, interviews with and articles by former SAT essay graders have provided further information about the grading process: if an essay scorer takes longer than 2-3 minutes to grade each essay, she has to be "retrained." This process is annoying, as the grader has to grade a series of pre-graded essays and make sure she's within a point of the grade before she can get back to grading actual student essays. Graders may also be forced to retrain if they run into a prescored essay that's been thrown in among the student essays and don't score it within one point of the score. To avoid all of this retraining, graders will sometimes score in the middle of a range to stay on the safe side. For example, if an essay is at least a 4, a grader might score it a 5 because that grade is within one point of a 6 OR a 4 (and might be right on target with a 5). Interior of a beet sugar factory showing centrifuges (CHS-2496) by Ashley Van Haeften, used under CC BY 2.0/Cropped from original. "These score results show the need for retraining. Let us return Grader 18927 to the vat." What Does This Mean for Your SAT Essay? Now that you know a little more about the official SAT essay grading policies and the reality of SAT essay grading, how can you use this information to write higher-scoring essays? Donââ¬â¢t hide your thesis. Graders spend 2-3 minutes per essay or else face a retraining penalty. They will not be happy if they have to hunt all over to find your point of view, so state your thesis clearly in your introduction. Be organized. Again, because the grader is spending a short amount of time on your essay, you want to make it easier for her to follow your logic. You can make a few mistakes. As long as errors in your grammar, punctuation, and spelling donââ¬â¢t significantly affect the readability of your essay, your essay's graders wonââ¬â¢t penalize you for it. Similarly, as long as the facts you use in your essay logically support your thesis, it doesn't matter if they're actually true or not. For instance, you could completely change the plot of a novel like George Orwell's Animal Farm, and as long as the changes you've made make logical sense, the graders must not penalize you for it. The Marketing Role in a CSR Company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The Marketing Role in a CSR Company - Essay Example The marketing angles are also in line with what the different publics require from the aegis of Shell and how Shell as a global company has brought about these deliverables in a quantifiable capacity. à Shell has concerned itself with health, safety, and other significant issues on a worldwide basis. This has meant that quite a heavy spending has been focused towards the CSR ranks, which indeed is a very positive aspect that is brought forward by the top management at Shell. Shell believes in empowering small and medium business entrepreneurs through its different programs (Ralston 2002). It has also endeavored to provide the poor and needy the much-needed food and shelter through a series of programs, all of which are geared to uplift the image of Shell in the long run. What is more understandable is the fact that Shell has been able to give in its best for quite a while now and the same will continue to be the case in the times to come, since its measures and initiatives are very coherent and strong. à The role of marketing within the CSR domains is also very important for Shell since the global player within the oil company understands that if it does not involve its own self in a very reasonable way within the minds and hearts of the customers, then it would be very difficult for it to claim its place within the relevant industrial settings as well (Sims 2003). Hence Shellââ¬â¢s role is to come out as an honest player which it is trying its best to project in different walks of life (Bennett 2002). However, there are times when controversies do arise and more so within the aegis of whistleblowing patterns making the rounds of the top organizations in the present times. Shellââ¬â¢s responsibility does not end here at all. It has to keep moving forward and satisfy its publics in such a way that they feel privileged and has a very positive view of the oil company that has changed the CSR definition. Ã

The Controversial Role of Women in Today's Time Research Paper
The Controversial Role of Women in Today's Time - Research Paper Example In the past, it was usual for women candidates to experience discrimination and unfairness by party leaders. These party elites refuse to employ women to compete for office, and they did not advocate women candidates (Thomas & Wilcox, 1998). Consequently, women experienced hardships in raising financial supports and in being respected as trustworthy candidates by the electorate and the mass media. Women in Politics: Past and Present Recent studies report that such inequities and discrimination has ebbed significantly. As stated by Georgia Duerst-Lahti, although women have been normally defeated by the men in elections in the past, it ceases to be the case nowadays (Thomas & Wilcox, 1998). As Barbara Burrell claims, in recent elections women have been more triumphant than men at all phases of the procedure from ââ¬Ëearly money through the general electionââ¬â¢ (Thomas & Wilcox, 1998, 4). Negative responses of the electorate to women candidates have been reported as well. In the past, large numbers of voters believed that the place of women was not in politics (Carroll, 2003). Recent studies discover that women elected officials have mainly surmounted these barriers. According to Foerstel and Foerstel (1996), a significant percentage of the masses remain quite less sympathetic or accommodating of women candidates, but the percentage of citizens having this sentiment has decreased drastically, and although such sentiments remain they are frequently overpowered by incumbency status or party allegiance. Scholars studying fund-raising performances, voter preference, and party leadersââ¬â¢ treatment or perception of women candidates have assumed that when women compete for office, they win elections as frequently as their male counterparts do (Foerstel & Foerstel, 1996). Nevertheless, the removal of several barriers does not imply that men and women play on an even field. Barriers to the representational parity of women remain and contribute in the explanatio n of the relatively low proportions of women running for political positions (Rajoppi, 1993). These barriers comprise the rigidity of the incumbency aspect, media exposure of candidates, social qualification, electoral system, and socialization impacts. New Barriers to Womenââ¬â¢s Political Participation Social qualifications relate to the expectations of the public about the eligibilities of those who are qualified contenders. Usually this involves specific job-related backgrounds, educational achievements, military involvement, and number and form of earlier political experiences, and so on (Carroll, 2003). Even though there has been a great deal of progress, women nowadays remain less probable than their male counterparts to occupy political positions from legal professions, for instance, and are more probable to have joined politics from womenââ¬â¢s organizations or community assistance (Carroll, 2003). Thus, women may be perceived as less competent aspirants. Even though the impact of social qualifications have weakened later on, the gap in this aspect imply the women still confront bigger or new barriers to surmount to attain the same objectives. One implication of the conflicting qualifications and backgrounds is that women are less predisposed to view themselves as competent contenders for political positions (Thomas & Wilcox, 1998). The kind of socialization that encourages women to look for professions in law firms or business organizations also leads to their lower degree of self-esteem (Thomas & Wilcox,
